Irish software firm AMT signs USD1m deal

29-04-2002

by Paula Mythen

Dublin-based Aircraft Management Technologies has signed a deal worth more than USD1 million with Altas Air, a New York-based cargo airline.

The airline is to deploy AMTs' eTechlog platform in a bid to reduce costs. eTechlog is a wireless solution that allows integration of an airline's critical processes on the flight deck and replaces the traditional paper forms used to manage commercial aircraft.

The deal includes provisions for extending the platform applications into further areas of Atlas' operations, AMT said.

ETechlog allows for electronic entry of operations and maintenance information by pilots, cabin crew and ground engineers. The information is then transmitted to a Web-based aircraft data server during the aircraft turnaround cycle. Information on the server will then become instantly available for use by all authorised users within the airline and its maintenance provider. The software runs on Microsoft, Linux or Unix operating systems.

"In the current international climate it is imperative that airlines cut costs and improve process reliability without compromising safety," said Bernard Hensey, chief executive of AMT in a statement.

AMT was founded in late 2000 and develops software solutions that help automate and streamline operations within the aviation industry. Last November the company formed a long-term alliance with Fujitsu for developing and marketing solutions for airline operations.

Atlas Air is an all-cargo carrier that operates a fleet of more than three dozen Boeing 747 freighters, primarily under contract to airlines including British Airways and China Airlines.
