McAfee claims its free software is lapped up | Three 'answers Ireland's Call'
Reacting to Vodafone's plan to cap daily data roaming charges, rival mobile phone operator Three has called on other networks to follow its lead in abolishing data and roaming charges. Three removed roaming charges in January; at the time Three said the Consumers Association suggested other operators follow its lead.
Anticipating hordes of Irish rugby fans descending on Rome for the upcoming Italy-Ireland Six Nations match on Saturday, Three said its subscribers can make calls in Italy 'as if at home'. Three claims no other network has domestic rates for Irish fans travelling to the big game. The 'as if at home' billing promotion also applies in Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Hong Kong, and Australia.
Irish corporate telecoms company MinuteBuyer has secured a EUR300,000 contract with insurance and financial services firm One Direct. The three-year deal will see MinuteBuyer handling all inbound calls for the financial company. It is the first time One Direct has outsourced calls in this way, and MinuteBuyer claimed the company will save an average of 40 percent on calls within one year.
E-mail archives have a low confidence rating with British companies, according to new survey. Conducted by the content management association AIIM Europe, the results show 56 percent of companies have little or no confidence that important e-mails are systematically recorded, with 40 percent of surveyed firms reporting e-mail archiving is left up to individual staff.
Internet service provider Magnet has appointed a new business account manager. Joe Crowley has taken on the role of Limerick region Accounts Manager in Magnet's business division.
Data Electronics has appointed John Shorten as chief technical officer. Shorten now has responsibility for the firm's Dublin-based data centre. He joined the company in 2000, has previously held the titled of senior engineering manager, and holds adegree from the University of Limerick.
Accenture has appointed Eileen Burns as senior executive at the company's chief information office in Dublin. She jointed the company in November 1990 and is a graduated in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the University of Limerick.
Technology security firm McAfee said its free website safety ratings software, SiteAdvisor, has received more then 38 million downloads. McAfee said it receives 320 million enquiries per day from users of the software.
